Surrogacy UK

Surrogacy for UK intended parent(s) in India

What's the cost in India?

Surrogacy (having another woman bear a child for you) is an emotionally intense and legally complex arrangement. The process can require a fairly huge amount of time, money, and patience to succeed. However, more and more couples are considering surrogacy as a way of having their family. Despite some well-publicised "disaster stories" in the press, surrogacy is an arrangement that can bring joy to all concerned - as long as all the medical, legal, financial and emotional aspects are thought through by all parties beforehand.

Who might benefit?

Couples most often choose surrogacy when the woman is infertile and treatments have failed. There are several other reasons for choosing surrogacy. The woman may be unable to carry a child herself because of abnormalities in her uterus; because she has had a hysterectomy, or because of a health condition that means it is dangerous for her to be pregnant or give birth. Same sex couples also opt for surrogacy to bring life to their love.

How does it work?

A surrogate mother typically conceives after being artificially inseminated by IUI with the man's sperm (the man is usually the biological father). This is called "full surrogacy" because the surrogate's eggs and uterus have been used. We recommend to first opting for the intended mothers eggs as she would then be the biological mother or an egg donor's eggs as it greatly reduces the emotional and legal hassles of surrogacy.

She then goes on to carry the baby to term. When the child is born, the surrogate mother gives the baby to the couple and terminates her parental rights. The father's partner can then apply to adopt the baby legally.

More recently, sophisticated assisted conception treatments have made it possible for a surrogate to carry a baby that is completely the biological child of the infertile couple. This is achieved by using an embryo conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or a similar method, and is known as partial, gestational, or host IVF surrogacy. It is also possible for a surrogate to carry a donated embryo to term.

The infertile couple usually pays the surrogate mother's expenses along with additional legal and agency fees as a legal contract is involved. Expenses can include travel, maternity clothes and loss of earnings.

How long does it take?

As we receive your query for surrogacy in India and your medical details, we will consult our fertility specialist doctor. We will share with you the profiles of the surrogate mothers registered with the specialist in her clinic and other details including detailed costing. Once an arrangement is made, the couple and the surrogate usually try IUI or IVF for about three or four months, although it can take longer.

What's the success rate?

Attaching a numerical success rate to surrogacy is virtually impossible; too many factors go into the mix. If you can find a willing surrogate; if she gets pregnant and carries the baby to term (which depends on variables including sperm count and her ability to conceive, as well as the success of complicated procedures such as IUI and IVF), you will have succeeded where many other couples attempting surrogacy have not.

Since the organisation was founded in 2005, We Care has been involved in large number of surrogate births in India. Happy and successful conclusions are reached in 98 per cent of the arrangements they help to set up.

What are the advantages?

For a woman who can't conceive, surrogacy creates a chance for her and her partner to parent a child who is their genetic offspring at least partially (if they use the father's sperm and the egg donor's egg) or completely (if they ask the surrogate to carry an embryo created from the mother's egg and the father's sperm). If they set up an open arrangement, the couple can be intimately involved in all the details of their baby's gestation and may be there for the birth of their baby.

Surrogacy in UK

Surrogacy is legal in the UK, with the main provison that no fee can be paid to the surrogate. The only money that can be paid is to cover "reasonable expenses". However, it is illegal to advertise for a surrogate or for a surrogate to advertise, and it is against the law for a clinic to find a surrogate for you. So you have to find a friend or a relative who agrees to surrogate for you. Also the cost of surrogacy in UK is high

Once the baby is born, the intended parents will need to establish their legal parentage as the baby will be registered as the child of the birth mother (the surrogate) whether she is genetically related to the child or not.

Finding a healthy, willing surrogate that you know you can get along with, and feel that you can trust, can take months or even years. Once an arrangement is made, the couple and the surrogate usually try IUI or IVF for about three or four months, although it can take longer.
